Dorothy "Jessie" Northeim-Bechtel
Apr 9, 2018Dorothy was born in Amherst, on March 30, 1930, to Edward and Mildred Moebius. She resided in Amherst and graduated from Central High School where she proudly served as head majorette. She also attended and graduated from the Oberlin School of Commerce.Dorothy was employed as a librarian with the Firelands School District for nearly 30 years. As an active member of Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ, she was involved in Bible Study, GYL, Sunday School and sang in the church choir for over 60 years. She was also a founding and active member of the Brownhelm Historical Society. She also was a long-time volunteer for the Amherst Office on Aging.She had a selfless love for the Lord, her family, and many friends. While walking the fields of her home, she enjoyed seaching for Indian artifacts. Wintering for many years in Naples, Florida, she loved to walk the beaches in hopes of adding to her shell collection. Dorothy had a true love for all living things. She loved nature, animals, gardening and reading.Among those who will cherish Dorothy's memory are her son, James W. Northeim (Carrie) of Brownhelm; her daughters, Nancy K. Wulff of Westlake and Patricia A. Phinney (Jim) of McCook, Neb.; her stepchildren, Brian Bechtel (Dora), of Berea and Ruthanne Bell (Phil) of Arizona; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great- grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her first husband of 43 years, Donald F. Northeim; her second husband of 19 years, Robert C. Bechtel, brother, Edward Moebius; and her parents, Edward and Mildred Moebius (nee: Zimmerman).Friends may call Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ; 2144 North Ridge Road, Vermilion. The Rev. Joyce Schroer, pastor will officiate.
